Day 6 – Friday
Friday began with Aaron Wargo sharing a devotional with the team about the incomprehensible love of God. Afterwards, team members were encouraged to share what God had been teaching them this week. We wish you all could have heard the way that God has been working in our hearts and minds this week. The team is truly grateful for His love and His desire to make us more like Him.
From there, a team of people went out into the surrounding community and delivered food to families in need. It was so eye opening for many of us to see the conditions so many of the people live in. What is so striking to us was to see the joy these people have. They are content with the little they have. We very quickly became aware of how much we take for granted.
While some teams were out in the community, some were back at the Children’s Development Center (DCI) playing AWANA games with the kids. They were also teaching them card games and playing charades. It was so therapeutic to soak in their screams, giggles, and excitement of simply being kids.
In the afternoon, a team went out to deliver the bunk beds the guys made the day before. Once again, the joy on the faces of the kids receiving their very first bed was indescribable. Many of these kids sleep in a double bed with several family members or on the floor. You can just imagine the delight of them having their very own bed!
The evening consisted of souvenir shopping and a stop at a local grocery store so we could buy coffee and snacks we can’t get in the U.S. Just picture 25 “gringos” taking over the coffee aisle at the local grocery store! We just can’t imagine leaving here without some of their coffee! We had dinner as a team at a local Chinese Restaurant (go figure…) while our host families’ parents were at a Marriage Dinner and conference at the church.
It was another amazing day having the privilege to serve here! Until tomorrow…
