The Ridge attendees never fail to impress us. Whether it’s giving money for the parking lot or coffee funds, bringing in winter gear for those in need, or piling the shelves high with canned goods for a food drive… our attendees always step up!
Over the spring, the Ridge held a food drive to collect non-perishable food items and monetary donations for the Christian Help Food Pantry. The drive took place in the church lobby over the course of 4 weeks, and it was a huge success! The total amount of food collected was about 2,500 pounds (and the total amount of money collected was $2,500!). That’s a lot of hungry mouths fed.
Christian Help is a local organization that offers food, emergency financial assistance, housewares, and clothes to anyone in need. Their Food Pantry offers a 3-5 day supply of food for anyone who makes a request every 60 days. Homeless individuals are given food any time they request it.
“This donation from Chestnut Ridge is such a blessing to our pantry,” said Kef Howard, Food Pantry Coordinator. “Without donations, we would not be able to provide for so many in the community.”
In 2014, the Food Pantry provided food for 3,585 individuals, or 1,292 households. The items that fill the Food Pantry are primarily donated by the community, or purchased with monetary donations. Last year, their food purchase expense was $13,888. In addition, they received in-kind food donations valued at $25,794 to supplement the pantry. The total cost to keep the pantry running in 2014 was $49,540.
The Food Pantry is always in need of both food and monetary donations. They accept food donations of any kind, and some items that can enhance food orders are toiletry kits, cleaning products, and pet food. Individuals interested in donating items to the Christian Help Food Pantry can contact them at email@example.com.
The Ridge has partnered with Christian Help for several years. They are an organization that genuinely cares about the needs of others, and we are proud to have the opportunity to support them as they serve our community.
