Honduras Mission Trip: February 2018 – Day 7

Day 7

Hola, CRC!

Today was the day to dedicate the home that was built this week. It is amazing that a home could be ready in basically 5 days for a family of 5 to move into. They had been living in a house that didn’t have working doors and was so dilapidated and rundown.
They were extremely excited and it was moving to be there to see their faces as they received the keys to a new home. Having a door that locks is a big deal because that means they can leave their home without fear that their belongings will be stolen. It made me proud to put all the furnishings in the home we had picked out for them. The oldest boy eagerly claimed his own bedroom.

Honduras Mission Trip: February 2018 – Day 6

Day 6

Hola, CRC!

Day what? I think Day 6. It’s Thursday already—this week is flying by! This morning a team of us delivered food to 10 homes in the community. Another team was continuing work at the new home being built, which will be dedicated to the family tomorrow.
Several kids at the CDI received a new uniform shirt for school.

This afternoon we delivered beds to two homes and it was overwhelmingly emotional to see the gratitude and happiness on the faces of the families receiving the beds. The first home was no more than 100 square feet and the beds were stacked three tall. Some of us thought how in the world are they going to live here. But they do and they are so happy. We prayed with each family and the second home accepted an invitation to come to Iglesia Gran Comision. God is moving!

Day 5

Hola, CRC!

Today was a fiesta for the kids at the CDI! They were being welcomed back for school with piñatas, face painting and ice cream! It was fun for the kids, and for us.

A crew went to the home site to finish the home for the septic tank and pour concrete floors. The rest of the supplies were delivered to the clinic and they were so grateful—the dentist was so happy to receive the toothbrushes! The photo of the precious little one receiving a breathing treatment captures beautifully how valuable the clinic is and how much it provides to this neighborhood. Patients pay about $3 to be seen and get their medications, the only requirement is to hear the Gospel.

We went to church with our host families, and we made a visit to WalMart in Honduras. Another beautiful day!

Honduras Mission Trip: February 2018 – Day 4

Honduras Mission Trip: February 2018 – Day 4

Day 4

Hola, CRC!

Day 4 was such an emotional day—ups and downs. We hiked in the mountains and walked through rivers to take solar lights to people that do not have electricity. It was physically draining, but fulfilling.

We delivered solar lights and shared the Gospel with each home; we correlated the two by explaining that Jesus is the light of the world and when we accept Jesus as our Savior, He brings us out of the darkness. Some people asked if they had to pay for the light. No, this is a free gift that we give, just as Jesus paid the price for our sins for free. There were people didn’t know Jesus and accepted Him, some who already serve Jesus, and others who knew but didn’t accept. It was a mixture of all. Still, we planted the seed and spread Jesus love.

I saw so much poverty, but also so much love. God’s beauty was displayed in so many ways.

Day 2

Hola, CRC!

What an emotional day! It is amazing to assemble something in WV, it shows up in Honduras and we walk for miles to deliver to those who have so little! The poverty here is extreme; what an awesome God we serve and what a privilege to deliver light to these people with no electricity.

Some people we encountered today knew Jesus and some did not. We were able to lead some to accept Christ as the light of their life, just as we have provided them with light. We asked them to think of Jesus and the light He brings to their lives when they use this light. God Bless all that helped make this trip possible. You were with us today!

Honduras Mission Trip: February 2018 – Day 1

Day 1

Hola, CRC!

The journey was smooth and God was good to us along every step of the way—even when Mary Beth, Tom, and Heather has their luggage checked for “suspicious items” ?

As tradition goes, we stopped at Power Chicken to fuel up after 2 different 2 1/2 hour flights. Everyone agreed the food was delicious! The scenery along the way from San Pedro Sula to La Ceiba was absolutely gorgeous!

For the first timers, you could hear the wonder and awe at God’s scenery. For others, it felt like coming home a bit, with excitement to see old friends. After starting at 4:15am (EST) in DC, we finally arrived at our host family homes around 8pm (CST). We had some good conversation with Google Translator and a great interpreter and then off to bed.
