Verge [5th grade]

Verge is a single year transition experience within Chestnut Ridge Church Student Ministry that has been designed especially for 5th grade students. Fifth grade students are at a transitional point in their lives when they don’t feel like kids anymore, but aren’t fully ready for an environment geared toward teenagers. Verge builds on the foundation set by our elementary environment, but brings it up a notch to make it relevant to the fifth grader’s changing needs and desires.
Verge meets Sunday during the 9 and 11 o’clock services in the Deviate (middle school) room on the second floor.

What to expect

Verge [5th graders] join with Deviate [6-8th graders] in a fun and casual atmosphere. Yup, you can just wear what you’d wear to school! The fun begins with a variety of games, music, and other interactive elements, then continues as we split into age groups for a video teaching. Verge students then have their own small group time where they can discuss how God’s truth that they just heard about connects to our everyday lives.

Before and after services, students hang out in the dv8 room playing air hockey, xbox, and hanging with their friends. The room opens 15 minutes prior to each service, and closes 15 minutes after the close of service.

Where to go

The Deviate room is located upstairs at the end of the hallway opposite the elementary wing. From the lobby, if you enter the double doors just past the coffee bar, there will be a set of stairs on your left. At the top of the stairs, head straight down the hallway toward the air hockey table; we are at the end of the hallway.

What you'll do

The first time you visit Verge, you’ll fill out a new student information card. This can be done at the Kids & Students desk in the lobby or at the Deviate room upstairs. The next time you return, you will enter the phone number you listed on the card at the iPad stations at the Devaite room door to check in.

How long is Verge?

Verge lasts for approximately 1 hour (either 9:00–10:00 or 11:00–12:00). Students do not need to be picked up by their parents, but are encouraged to choose a place to meet their parents after the main service has ended. Many families choose a location in the gym or lobby. Students are also free to stay in the Deviate room after service and have their parents come meet them there.
