Deviate [6-8th grade]
The middle school years are filled with growth, change, and excitement for students. That’s exactly what Deviate is designed to be about! Through large-group teaching, small-group application, service project, and fun events, Deviate connects students with each other and God in significant ways. Students are challenged to think about what they believe, as they take their next steps toward a faith of their own.
Deviate meets Sunday during the 9am and 11am services in the Deviate (middle school) room on the second floor.
What happens Sunday
What to expect: In Deviate, 6–8th graders join together in a fun and casual atmosphere. Yup, students can just wear what they’d wear to school! The fun begins with a variety of games, music, and other interactive elements, as well as a video or live speaker who shares how God’s truth connects to our everyday lives. The day ends with small-group time where students connect with one another and trusted adults in small groups where they apply what they’ve just heard to their own lives.
Before and after services, students hang out in the Deviate room playing air hockey, Xbox, and hanging with their friends. The room opens 15 minutes prior to each of the morning services and closes 15 minutes after the end of these services.
Where to go: The Deviate room is located upstairs at the end of the hallway opposite Ridge Kids Elementary. If you enter the double doors just past the coffee bar, there will be a set of stairs on your left. At the top of the stairs, head straight down the hallway toward the air hockey table. Deviate is at the end of the hallway.
What you’ll do: Everyone who attends Deviate must check in at the iPad kiosk at the entrance to the Deviate room.
Never been to Deviate before? Make sure to stop by the Kids and Students Desk in the lobby, where you can have all your questions answered, register your student, and go for a quick tour. You’ll get all checked in for the first time there!o check in.
Who can come: Anyone in 6th–8th grades is invited to all Deviate events.
How long is Deviate? Deviate lasts for approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes (either 9–10:15am or 11am–12:15pm). Students do not need to be picked up by their parents, but they are encouraged to choose a place to meet their parents after the main service has ended. Many families choose a location in the gym or lobby. Students are also free to stay in the Deviate room after service and have their parents meet them there.
Saturday, October 7 — REGISTER BY SEPTEMBER 24 — 6th–8th grade students are invited to participate in a one-day event that is sure to bring adventure to life! Break out of your everyday routine to conquer fears, hang out with friends, and grow closer to God.
