unChristian

unchristian.gifi am pretty much fascinated by what peoples’ perceptions of Christ and Christianity are [not always the same to be sure]. having traveled on the “inside” for most of my life, and now working for a church, i have found it increasingly difficult to get outside the bubble.

This book was recommended to me and so i asked for a copy for Christmas. Just a quick glance at the TOC lead me to believe this will be an interesting read.

i am curious to know what others think about the findings in this book. are there results accurate in your experience? and more importantly, what do we do about it?

Hey Trey! Saw a neat visual/musical drama on you tube to Casting Crowns’ “Who Am I”…..something like this would work perfectly with our current series. Just thought I’d pass it on. Marisa

    Trey,
Have you finished reading the book? What are your thoughts?

Trey, your 20th high school reunion is coming up.

I would rather not leave my contact number in a public blog, but I am in the phone book in San Marcos, Texas, with my wife Jenifer.

You may want to contact the nice people/company who have been hired to find you at 1-800-868-7513, as you are listed in my invitation as “whatever happened to…”

I found you because I have enough common sense to use google to find people. Maybe I should quit my job and work for the “weplanreunions” people, heh.

well sorry to be so negligent here. once Christmas rolls around we hardly have a break until spring. to answer beth’ question about the book, i kind of picked my way through reading a chapter here and there. my impressions are that we could learn a lot from kinnaman’s observations.

sometimes i think if we just stopped trying so hard and just were ‘normal’ [not immoral, just normal] then most of these objections would go away. i think the Christian subculture impresses upon us a certain mode of life that is just unnatural; and i think people pick up on that insincerity.

turns me off too, to be honest.

I read Unchristian last summer. Amazingly insightful. Sometimes I wonder why believers don’t get it. then I realize that I don’t get it all the time either.

Trey, I wonder about the validity of their research, but it is a subject that needs to be looked at in churches that minister to teens especially. My 13 year old son has suddenly decided he doesn’t believe in God, heaven, hell, etc. I am remaining calm about this because I understand that every thing I say and do could possibly influence his decision further. There are some UnChristians who are still searching for the Light, while others have been seared by it and still others will do anything to block it out altogether. Hopefully, Christians remember to not judge, but discern (there’s a difference). And always be ready with a listening ear to someone who truly is being guided by the Holy Spirit to Christ.
