if yours is the last face i see
by cameron king
If yours is the last hand I touch
Before my hands become again dust,
I’ll be content at my last day’s dusk,
Of hands, to have only held yours.
If yours is the last heart I hear
Beating when the end of mine is near,
I’ll slip into silence devoid of fear;
Your rhythm in my ear reassures.
If yours are the last eyes I gaze
Into as the world around me fades,
I’ll find peace; and sharp, through the haze,
They’ll then, as before, be my light.
And if yours is the last face I see
Before I blink into eternity,
I’ll thank the One who gave it to me
To look on in love all my life.
Indeed, your hands, heart, eyes and face
Have been my comfort while in this place.
how sweet to remember
by: cameron king
How sweet to remember you in
The morning, early, before the light
Touches the earth, when the world is still
And silent, before the clouds become white as
The snow on the ground that is now only softly
Glowing among darker trees, which are
Resting too, desperately waiting for the newness
Of spring, as I wait for you.
To wake with you in my awareness, so
Only you and I share the quiet winter’s
Dawn, finding peace in things not yet done
This day, in another chance to see beauty
As I see it in the aching of the branches;
The whole earth is trembling, anticipating the
Return of songbirds and new birth and green
Things to enrich the air and bring life again.
How sweet to remember that last
Flash of your eyes toward mine, that bright
Light defying the dark color around it, like the white
Snow in the black trees, knowing that having seen it
Once I will always see it, in dreams or in early
Waking hours, or wherever I am; I will see it and
Feel this winter that is straining, longing for the change
Of spring, as I long for you.
